Penzance without the pirates

We travelled from Plymouth to Penzance and I was surprised by how many people asked if I saw any pirates. I didn't see any but that it probably because we don't live in a world where Gilbert and Sullivan musicals are a reality. Despite this, Penzance had its own character. Yes, the streets had bunting and yes there were lots of beautiful stone cottages but it didn't have an old city focus like Plymouth.

Our hotel was a great base - a good location and really pretty. Another plus is the complimentary breakfasts were packaged so we could save portions for lunch.

Penzance is not as 'shiny' as some other Cornish towns but was lovely to visit and proved to be a really handy base for day trips (see the next few posts!). One fun fact about Penzance is that it is home to the longest continually running cinema in Britain so in order to be part of history, we visited it to see the latest Indiana Jones movie - totally worth it. One thing I might also comment on is the mutant seagulls here in Cornwall. They are huge! A swooping Cornish seagull is unsettling but thankfully we have escaped any serious attacks so far.
